فشار خون بالای ریوی هنگامی رخ می‌دهد که شریان‌های ریه تنگ می‌شوند و جریان خون از قلب به ریه با مانع روبرو می‌شود. فشار خون در این شریان‌ها افزایش می‌یابد و نهایتا باعث می‌شود بطن راست قلب ضعیف و ضعیف‌تر و نهایتا دچار نارسایی شود.
هنگامی که علائم فشار خون بالای ریوی ظاهر شده باشد، احتمالا این عارضه پیشرفت زیادی کرده است.
تشخیص و درمان فشار خون بالای ریوی
علایم فشار خون ریوی شبیه علایم دیگر بیماری ها است، در نتیجه تشخیص بیماری مشکل است. برای تشخیص فشار خون ریوی، پزشک متخصص قلب و عروق اکوی قلب انجام می دهد. در این تست، پزشک متخصص قلب وسیله ای را روی قفسه سینه قرار می دهد. این وسیله امواج صوتی تولید می کند. از این امواج برای دیدن قلب و تخمین فشار خون در عروق ریوی استفاده می شود.
